Details about the event

Proudly presented by the National Trust of Australia (Queensland) and the Cooktown Re-enactment Association

The Cooktown Re-enactment Association have been re-enacting the story of Captain’s Cook experience in Cooktown for 60 years. This community performance has become a landmark event on the regional calendar.

Join us for a fully costumed re-enactment of the landing of Captain James Cook and his first meeting with the Guugu Yimithirr people, followed by the firing of the Cannon.

You will witness the arrival of Cook and his crew and hear the stories of his interaction with the Guugu Yimithirr people, including the first ever act of reconciliation between the English and the Aboriginal inhabitants.

You will also witness the stories of the scientific discoveries of Banks and Solander, and their botanic and artistic legacies with the first recorded sightings of the kangaroo and flying fox.
