It is my pleasure to welcome you to the annual Cooktown Discovery Festival, a highlight on Tropical North Queensland’s event calendar that attracts thousands of visitors to celebrate the town’s significant history and heritage.
This year marks the 40th staging of the event that highlights Cooktown’s unique environment, heritage and culture over three exciting days, incorporating scientific discoveries, Aboriginal culture, art and re-enactments that are significant to Australian history.
Events are vital to the Queensland economy. They promote our beautiful destinations, driving tourism visitors which supports local jobs. This event is part of Tourism and Event Queensland’s It’s Live in Queensland events calendar, worth $800 million to the state’s economy.
If you’re visiting Cooktown for the festival, I encourage you to get out and explore Tropical North Queensland, from the spectacular World-Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef to the lush Wet Tropics Rainforest.
The Hon. Kate Jones, MP
Minister for Tourism Industry Development
